    About British Souvenirs

Besides royal wedding souvenirs, there are other souvenirs that are very collectible. The British Museum has a broad range of interesting souvenirs in its superior collection. One of the most famous British souvenirs is not a typical royal wedding type souvenir. It was in the form of a “boar badge.” The boar was the emblem of Richard the III who reigned from 1483-1485. Thousands of boar badge souvenirs were made at the time of his coronation in 1483. The British Museum has some fine examples.

Richard III was followed by King Henry VII, whose army killed Richard III, to end the War of the Roses. King Henry VII reigned from 1485-1509. He started the noted House of Tudor which went on to rule England and Wales for the next 117 years.
No boars for Henry VII. He created a pretty souvenir, the Tudor Rose. The War of the Roses was fought between two strong and ambitious royal families that were both members of the Plantagenet family, the House of Lancaster and the House of York, whose symbols were a red rose, a white rose respectively. When the House of Lancaster, led by Henry Tudor (Henry VII) won, he combined the red and the white roses to create the Tudor Rose badge, which can be found on many royal wedding souvenirs since it has been used by every King since then; it is part of the beautiful royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. royal wedding souvenir
The longest reigning British monarch was Queen Victoria who reigned from 1837-1901, 63 years. Victoria’s royal wedding souvenirs should be coveted. She loved her husband Albert dearly and wore mourning clothes for the rest of her life when she lost him in 1861. For Victoria’s big Diamond jubilee in 1897, the first pin badges were made for royal souvenirs. This idea was developed by an American company a year before. Victoria’s last public appearance was in 1899 when she laid the foundation for what became the Victoria and Albert Museum which also has royal wedding souvenirs, and more in its collection. royal wedding souvenir
