If you haven't seen Jean Luc Godard's 1960 masterpiece, Contempt, go see it for the views of Capri and Casa Malaparte where much of it was filmed. Casa Malaparte was built and owned by Malaparte an Italian author who was banished to prison by Mussolini. According to Malcom McDonough's book about Casa Malaparte: "While detained, Malaparte reflected on how he would live after his release. He wanted a secluded house where he could retreat to write. Ideally, it would be in dramatic Naples Bay --dominated by Mount Vesuvius and dotted with rocky, wild islands.... In the end, the raw, volcanic, pan Mediterranean character of the Italian south won him over." Capri was the place for Casa Malaparte.
