We make our ice buckets our of fabric that is then coated with waterproof material. We've chosen lots of fabrics that are decorator favorites, like ikats. Since ikat comes in so many colors, we've done ice buckets in a bunch of inviting colors. Our Caspari ikat paper napkins also come in many delightful colors. When it comes to ikat, the more the merrier.
Our shagreen ice buckets are made out of a pattern that looks like shagreen. Real shagreen comes from sharks. It’s a favorite decorating accent but lately designers don’t like to use it because the real stuff is endangered. Since our ice buckets are made out of shagreen look fabric, nothing is endangered. You can get the look and still feel great about it.

Some Interesting Facts About Ice
Ice is a luxury of modern life that we take for granted. I found a fascinating article about refrigeration on Wikipedia. It says that it was not until the late 1800s that refrigerators could be found in a majority of American homes. Before that, the ice man came around in the ice wagon.
Talk about growth, in 1921, 5,000 refrigerators were manufactured in the US. But by 1950, more than 80 percent of American farms and more than 90 percent of urban homes had one. Ice machines came later. So next time you bring out the ice bucket and fill it with ice from your refrigerator, think about the old days and celebrate that ice as well as the occasion. (By the way, the ice cube was not invented until 1844!) |
