Dovima had two elephants. Why shouldn’t you have an elephant pillow with two elephants? Avedon’s shot of supermodel Dovima with elephants is iconic. Not only are there two elephants, there were two photographs that Avedon shot. One shot with the model in a white dress and another with the model in a black dress. The white dress is the first formal dress Yves Saint Laurent made as a designer for Christian Dior. The elephants were from the 1955 Cirque d’Hiver in Paris. In case you are wondering which version is the one Harper’s Bazaar ran? It was the one of the black dress.
Dovima has been called the first super model. She stopped modeling at the top of her game and went to lead a quiet life in Florida. When the Avedon show was at The Metropolitan Museum a number of years ago, I remember seeing the photo for the first time. It is very memorable. Many considered it a show stopper for many reasons. Zebra Pillow
Our zebra pillow fabric was inspired by the wallpaper at Gino's in Manhattan. Ginos opened in the 1930s and closed recently. It was in Woody Allen movies. Ginos was a favorite haunt of stars like Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren and more recently Gwyneth Paltrow. We New Yorkers really miss it! Our zebra pillow is a wonderful reminder of all the fun that was had there. Use one for a throw pillow on your sofa, couch or bed. This design is fun and a real conversation piece. |  |
