And the designer is...Sarah Burton! of Alexander McQueen

She was already on our short list for royal wedding dress designers. Our top contenders were:
    Sarah BurtonVivienne WestwoodKate Middleton
Sarah Burton took over Alexander McQueen when Alexander McQueen died. Mrs Burton, has designed dresses for all sorts of British celebrities, including British actress Kate Blanchett and American movie star Gwenth Paltrow. Iconic British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood who has even had a one woman show at The Victoria and Albert Museum says she is not even in the running to design the British royal wedding dress but you never know.Kate Middleton apparently loves Burberrys. Here she is in a Burberry raincoat. In fact, she has even been criticised in the Press lately for wearing too much Burberrys. A Burberrys wedding dress would be a British fashion statement since the house is perhaps the best known British clothing line in the world.

    Past British Royal Wedding Dresses:

    Elizabeth's Royal WeddingCamilla's Royal WeddingDiana's Royal Wedding
Because it was 1947, then Princess Elizabeth saved ration cards to buy the material for her royal wedding to Prince Phillip which only made her dress more beautiful.Camilla Parker Bowles was said to have been low key for her royal wedding to Prince Charles for other reasons. Though that hat is not exactly “low key.”The much loved Diana’s 1981 royal wedding was a hard act to follow.
While we are more concerned with decorative accents for the wedding than dresses here, we still find the fashion news absorbing so here's some fun posts.
  • Women's Wear Daily on Wednesday March 6th calls the dress question "The Kate Debate: Weeding Down Wedding Gowns."
  • Kate wore a beige wool cashmere Burberry raincoat for her last formal appearance with William in Belfast to benefit The Northern Ireland cancer fund. She tossed a pancake. Clearly Kate's got game. kate and william
  • In the British Press, the Guardian has lots of gossip about the British royal wedding. The rumors about Fergie, Sarko and all of the past loves of William and Kate are unabashed.
  • In the business section of The New York Times there was an interesting article about royal wedding merchandise. Britain expects a huge influx of tourists to come and buy wedding merchandise.
  • There is also an official British royal wedding site, www.officialroyalwedding2011.org filled with news about William and Kate. The story of Kate Middleton's life is one of the first posts. It sounds like a fairy tale. Afterall, how many princesses get to marry a Prince these days? Kate and William were school buddies at University. There are also lots of posts from Diana and Charles' wedding, like menus of what was served and photos of bridesmaids and honeymoon adventures. In case you aren't making the trip to England, you'll find British royal wedding mugs, William and Kate decorative throw pillows and more decorative accessories to celebrate the wedding right here on our site.
