    Bird Wall Decor

This set of decorative birds includes orange and red cardinals, blue buntings and yellow warblers. All of them are pretty well known, common birds. But the story of how John James Audubon came to paint them is anything but common. Audubon was born in France but came to America and stayed. He moved West and had a general store which never fared well. His true passion was for drawing birds. In the time he lived, April 26, 1785 – January 27, 1851, bird wall decor was a luxury in America and Audubon struggled to make a living. He did portraits of people to support his family and his wife taught school and was the principal breadwinner.

Luckily Audubon took his drawings to Europe in 1826 and the English and Scottish appreciated them. In fact Audubon was revered there as “The American Woodsman.” John James Audubon was fortunate to raise enough money at that point to begin to publish his now famous Birds of America which consisted of 435 engraved and hand colored images. He sold them as as a series and the rest is history.

Today we take for granted Audubon’s fame and the value of his prints. When you hear his story, you realize his perseverance was amazing. Now Audubon print bird wall decor hangs mostly in museums and on the walls of lucky collectors. Our framed decorative wall art is an affordable way to have Audubon prints in your home decor.
