Bird Pins
Our three bird pins are based on Audubon drawings in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
American illustrator John Jay Audubon lived from 1785- 1851. His delightful birds still fascinate in today’s world. In case you are wondering about the birds in the bird pins we sell. Here’s a little info:
As more of a bird jewelry lover than a bird watcher, the hummingbird and warbler birds above were the better known birds of the 3 enamel jewelry birds available. But I learned that Indigo Buntingsare much loved by American bird lovers. Their habitat is shown in the map attached. They spend the summer and the winter in different regions. What a fun gift to give to someone you know who does the same. Any snow birds in your family? | |
| Our Hummingbird bird pin is clearly a male ruby-throated hummingbird. Both the female and male of this bird species have green backs but the male has a red throat and the female a white one. The ruby and green of our enamel pin are beautifully rendered. You can look for this species if you live in the areas on the bird map to the right. Some people collect hummingbird jewelry. This is a perfect gift for collectors of bird jewelry (especially bird pins) and non-collectors alike. (click right on image to open in new window) | |
The first is the Indigo Bunting image, the second is the Hummingbird, the third is the warbler.
